BTEC LEVEL 2 FIRST AWARD IN CONSTRUCTION

 

This course is a BTEC Level 2 First Award in Construction and the build environment and comprises of 120 guided learning hours.  This course is equivalent to 1 GCSE certificate A*-C.


The course consists of:

 

2 Core Units:

  • Construction Technology
  • Construction and Design

1 Mandatory Unit:

  • Scientific and Mathematical Applications for Construction

1 Optional Specialist Unit:

  • Exploring Carpentry and Joinery Principles and Techniques

The practical aspects include making model joints in wood and making a cold frame. 

The Core Unit: Construction Technology is externally assessed.

This course leads either straight into apprenticeships or BTEC Level 3 in Construction and is a good introduction to all aspects of the construction industry.

 

 

BTEC LEVEL 2 FIRST CERTIFICATE IN CONSTRUCTION AND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

This option can only be studied if coupled with the First Award in Construction. 

This courses tops up the First Award option to a certificate level.

This course is equivalent to another 1 GCSE certificate and 120 hours guided learning hours.  Certificate students will then be eligible for 2 GCSEs equivalent to A*-C.

 


This course consists of one theory unit on sustainability in the construction industry – this unit is externally assessed.  The course also consists of five other units which include both a theory and a practical element.  These units are based on:

  • Exploring brickwork and blockwork principles and techniques
  • Exploring painting and decorating principles and techniques
  • The construction industry
The practical aspects include building various walls using bricks and blocks.
