E-Media

 

This option is perfect for pupils who wish to tailor their existing ICT knowledge to a career that will involve computer design work such as website design, video creation and image/sound manipulation. Pupils choosing this option will have 2 additional lessons per week as well as their Core ICT lessons.

Pupils will follow a specially designed course to cover topics not covered by the usual Core ICT course.

The OCR Cambridge Nationals Level 2 Certificate in eMedia is a vocationally- related qualification that provides valuable opportunities for individuals to develop skills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding which will support entry into work or progression to further studies through Further Education or Higher Education.

 

Units of study

R007: Video/ animation / multimedia presentation
R005: Creating dynamic products using sound and vision

Pupils may undertake other units to cover sound, video or digital imaging, depending on the time available.


To be successful on this course you need to be?

  • Have a keen interest in more advanced aspects of ICT and software
  • Organised and motivated to develop your own projects
  • An eye for detail – an ability to use computers creatively to produce graphic designs
  • Able to meet deadlines and work independently
  • Be self-managers
  • Have an interest in the units that will be covered

 

 


How will I be assessed?

All units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by OCR. There are no timetabled exams for the eMedia course. The full award and units from this qualification are graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. Pupils are expected to continue to work on their eMedia in their own time for homework.

If pupils fall behind they may be asked to attend after school catch up sessions to help them complete their work to the required standard. Failure to keep up to date will affect the final mark for this qualification as all the points are added together to award the final grade. Units cannot be resubmitted.

 


What do I need to know or be able to do before taking this course?

Pupils will learn new skills using creative applications that they can transfer to further education or to the world of work.
This course will be suitable for students who wish to follow a career path in the field of computer design and more suited to higher ability students, with clear future career plans in more advanced ICT careers such as computer-aided design, graphic & media production and web publishing.
