Personal Development and Employability Skills

 

The Personal Development and Employability Skills Option is designed to recognise and develop a breadth of personal skills, qualities and attitudes required by employers across a range of sectors.
The qualifications have been developed with the aim of progressing learners into further education and/or employment.  They give learners the opportunity to:

  • Develop their own personal growth and engagement in, and through, learning
  • Engage in learning that is relevant to them and support their development of personal skills and attributes that are essential for working life and employment
  • Prepare themselves for progression into further education programmes,  apprenticeships or other work based learning
  • Develop their English and mathematics skills

 


Units of Study


In this option you will have the opportunity to work towards a number of qualifications:

 

Btec Work Skills

– L1

 

Is made up of a number of units which include the following:
Managing Your Own Money - the aim of this unit is to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of how to balance income and expenditure, how to save money and safe borrowing.
Applying for a Job - The aim of this unit is for learners to develop understanding of ways to apply for a job and develop the skills to present relevant job application information in an appropriate and accurate way.
Safe Learning in the Workplace - The aim of this unit is to give learners the knowledge and skills to learn safely in the workplace. Learners are made aware of their responsibilities towards safety for themselves and for others and how to deal with low risk hazards.

This is a standalone award based on your work experience

 

English

 

This is a standalone award based on your English skills and much of the GCSE course work can be used.
There is an online assessment

 

Math

 

This a standalone course based on skills you have learnt in your GCSE course but used to solve real life problems related managing your money.
There is an online assessment

 

 


To be successful on this course you need to be?

 

  • Take part in group projects and activities
  • Sharing and listening to ideas and opinions in a group
  • Attend your work experience placement at the end of year 10
  • Motivated to complete all the written work related to the above units

How will it be assessed?


All units are centre-assessed with external moderation. Evidence can be in the form of written work, photographs, practical observations etc...


What do I need to know or be able to do before taking this course?


We will give all interested pupils a taster session to see if they like the sort of activities covered in the course.
