Thursday 6 July 2023 The Students Become The Teacher! As part of their Unit 3 Appraising work for their GCSE Music, Year 10 students were set the challenge in Curriculum Period 3 to plan and deliver mini lessons to the rest of the class - this required the students to analyse parts of their Baroque Era set work "Badinerie" by JS Bach independently and make their own lesson resources for their classmates to use. The Year 10 students also rose to the challenge of writing their own Musical Theatre song in which they demonstrated a variety of vocal techniques while singing lyrics which explained the key characteristics of the genre itself. Mrs Reardon-Davies was very impressed indeed by their creativity, excellent subject knowledge and their enthusiastic pedagogic approach!

The students worked with the Sixth Form College music tutor, and they used state-of-the-art computer software to produce their own compositions. Kate from Year 10 said "I enjoyed using the Macbooks and Logic X Pro. I composed my own motifs and then used different sounds and compositional devices to turn my melodic ideas into a short piece". Sam from Year 10 observed "I will take my experience from the workshop today and use it in my GCSE Music composition coursework. It was really enjoyable and useful for the future" while Iona said that "the workshop inspired me to compose more of my own music and allowed me to get an insight into what Music Production at a sixth form college would be like". Monday 19 June 2023 Cystic Fibrosis - Wear Yellow Day What a brilliant day of yellow. Thank you to all of the pupils who thought creatively to wear something yellow, especially the group who wore high visibility jackets! It was very impressive to see how many people could find something yellow, some people even borrowed clothes from siblings, all to raise awareness. A massive thank you to staff, parents and carers for using the online donation page, we have smashed our target of £250 by over £100 and donations are still coming in! It was a wonderful feeling watching the donations coming in just minutes after the page went live. Finally, a big congratulations to one of our pupils who, along with two friends, presented on the difficulties people living with cystic fibrosis face on a day-to-day basis.
